straight 6 + nitrous??
« on: March 12, 2009, 01:09:09 pm »
so i know that a 250 is a pretty mediocre engine power wise, but is there anyway you could do a nitrous set up on it?. like a 50-75 shot. nothin to crazy.  i realize it might be kinda a stupid idea but thats what you get when boredom mixes with a want to go fast.  if i could get some decent ideas i would seriously consider doing the build...if not me and the old tank'll just have to continue cruisin slow  :) thanks for the info

Ive seen several inlines with split manifold, dual carbs, nitrous and turbos. All of them make respectable power, and are cool to boot, but like Capt said, how old is the motor. I would not put nitrous on any of the stock engines from these years. Youre asking for a major meltdown. However, if you rebuild it accordingly, it would be a really cool setup.

Sounds good, like choptop said, I've seen many inliners that would kick the crap out of a lot of V8's  I saw one guy with a ford 300 inline 6 that made 400hp with no power adders, and it sounded wicked too.

How about a nice cam first.  Clifford Performance makes headers and other go fast goodies for the inline 6's.

Check out the sound of this 250.

You can't just add N2O and expect anything to last if even one pass. For the $ you'd put into a serious inline 6 you could get better results from a V8 conversion for less money. It's cheaper and easier (no x wife pun intended) and for the money you'd spend going forced induction it'd be a waste on an inline 6 for these trucks.

Check out summit.  they have intake maniolds for 4 bbls and I think 2bbls.  look for offenhauser dual port manifolds.  I haven't seen anyone with an inliner get one of them that didn't love it.

Most of the sixs I have seen either run  2 or three one barrles, or one Holley 2 barrel. I think its a 370 cfm. A four barrel will be a little excessive I think.

What would be the best setup? A holley 2 barrel or 2 singles?

I think due to the design of the intake, that two 1 barrels would deliver the mixture more equally. I did see a 53 Chevy 3100 with a 235, 4 barrel and a turbo that looked really cool. I didnt get to hear it run because it was in a museum, but the owner said it would flat move out.
