Body trim
« on: March 26, 2009, 11:13:58 am »
Has anybody put the two tone trime on 73-80 and not used all the clips- just use liek 3m double sided tape? I was wondering if it would work well or if it would be a noticable gap between the trim and the body causing it not to look good.

Wondering the same thing myself... sure would be a lot simpler to install!

It would work, as long as you use good tape, and get it on there good.  I used the stuff that came with the new trim and here and there some of it's already coming off.  I haven't bought any new tape yet to fix this, but when I do I'll have to try different thicknesses to make the trim fit up right, and not have a gap between the body and trim.  the only minus would be that if a piece should come loose on the freeway or something, it will blow right off and be gone.

Read the third post from the bottom, it has my thoughts on aftermarket trim if that's what you're using:

Your talking about the aluminum trim with the black stripe correct? It will not stay on more than a few days with tape.

I used Panel bond on mine. That stuff will never come back off without using a moulding cutter.

Panel bond here: http://www.levineautoparts.com/3maupaboad20.html

The guns you use to apply are listed below on that page. I didn't get the stuff from these guys, they're just one of the first links that popped up. You generally use the stuff for attaching repair panels instead of welding. This stuff is tough--applied right it will not come off. I used it when I put my trim back on my 79 longbed, because that 2 sided tape just won't keep that trim attached to my satisfaction.

did u put it on the paint? Did you rough up the paint to make it stick or???

Does anybody else have and experience putting that trim on- i really don't want to have drill all the holes and go through all that hassle unless it is the best and most efficient way.
