700R4 trouble
« on: March 26, 2009, 05:56:15 pm »
On the weekend I changed my transmision filter while the pan was off the tranny and all the oil was drained away I shifted the trany from park to neutral to push it backwards out of the way. the next day i put the pan back on filled it up with oil fired up the truck and it went backwards right away. Now my whole shift pattern has shifted, park is now reverse reverse is now neutral, neutral is now drive and so on. I cant even get it into park but the shifter says im in park and the needle on the dash is not out of wack either. I took the pan back off today and looked and when someone shifts I watch the half moon thing with all the notches in it for the diffrent gears (sorry dont really no my trany parts) when we shift into 2nd on the colom the tranny goes into 1st but when we shift into park on the colom the tranny only goes into reverse! what is the problem and how can i fix it? thanks Marc  ???

There is a small bolt on the linkage that is used to adjust it. Loosen and set the tranny in park by hand and at the column then tighten.

Also make sure the linkage is seated on the spring and fully engaged into the lever on the manual valve.
