84 same as 83?
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:54:45 pm »
hi, i have an 84 gm shortbox, and am looking at purchasing an 83 shortbox for parts, are there any differences in the years as far as the body goes, as that is the main reason i would purchase it. Mostly the body and possibly the interior. thanks

Subtle grill differences I think but the wiper and dimmer switch was moved to the steering column so the dash was changed up some to reflect the change.  I am not aware of any other changes.

hmm, sounds good. are the dash assemblies interchangeable, as in it will physically fit back and forth? the parts 83 has a busted column from being stolen, and i mostly just want the body that is on it, as its mostly rustfree, but any interior parts that are in better condition than i currently have. just a question before i go and look. thanks for the responses!

81-2 grills are the same 83-4 there the same as well 85-7 are the same.I`m not sure but the 85 cab i got had the wiper switch on the column i think 83 or 4 im not sure they were still on the dash.Other than that 81-7 cabs should be virtually identical.

thanks

As Zieg85 stated, 83 has the switch on the dash, 84 has it on the column.

If you want to use the 84 column you will need the whole 84 under dash wire harness as well.

Or just swap the column harness.
