Yes, The transmission tunnel (depending on the year/tonage) may be different, just behind that (under the front edge of the seat) is higher on the 4x4.  Either a section needs cut out of the 4x4 & put in or a 2" body lift will do. Lorne

I think the 4x4 tunnel has an additional hump for the transfer case closer to the seat. If the 4x4 had a 4sp then the hump would be higher.

I believe the frames are the same between 4x2 and 4x4. What is it that your trying to do? Are you going to run your current 2wd drivetrain. If so, I think you'll be fine. If you going to make it a 4wd then you'll need to convert the hump.

i might be getting an 84 gmc 3/4 ton 4wd, the cab is rotted out and has no bed so i want to put my cab and bed on that frame...the parts truck already has a 2 or 3" body lift so i was gonna use that so i wouldnt have to modify my tunnel

Oh ok. So you'll end up with a 3/4 ton 4x4 right?

the frame base is pretty much the same through most years. so your 84 will fit with the body lift no prob

most of the trucks that came with a manual tranny had a bolt on cover..mainly so you could remove the lever and also fill the trans easier
