85 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd ECM
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:04:06 am »
My truck has an ECM in the glovebox, and a carbeurated 350 motor.  So my question is, what is the extent of what this computer controlls if there is no fuel injection?  Where can I find more information on this setup?

The ECM controls the primary mixture of the CCC Quadrajet, it also controls timing.

It controls EGR, TCC, EVAP purge, mixture contol, a.i.r. diverter and spark retard.

Wow.. thanks for that info, that definitely helped.  I looked up CCC info on google and got a good overview of its purpose.  It looks to me like this systems employs a lot of sensors and logic for the simple purpose of enriching or leaning the mixture a little.   My feeling is it may make more sense for me to just eliminate this and go to a standard quad jet carb.  I would still keep computer for other things, just not fuel management.   Would you all agree, or have you found this system is worth its extra complexity?

Thanks,
Mark

Hey everyone.. Ignore that last comment.  I have just been looking around and found out what a touchy subject this is.  I have had my fill of opinions on if it should stay or go!  I'll just keep my decision to myself :)

If your goal is emissions compliance then leave it be.

If you have to pass emissions, you have to keep it, if not, well that is your choice.
