Will a '72 3/4 ton rear end fit under my 74 1/2with no modifications?

Any 1973-1981 12bolt or 80-87 10bolt will bolt up (10's would need a hybrid U-joint) with the same drivetrain.  If you have a 4x4 you need a 4x4 donor, same is true of a 4x2.
There is no strength difference in either axle for street tires.
