tank leaking possibly

as part of the weekend killing the fusible link extravaganza, my truck is now leaking fuel, its coming from the top of the tank on the drivers side. guy at work said it looks like theres probably a hole in the fuel line and its leaking out the backflow in the line after i shut the truck off.

its a pretty constant drip. how much of a skate is it to drop the tank to see whats going on? its an 82, mechanical pump et all.

If it's just a line you don't have to drop the tank. If your bed bolts aren't rusted to death you can slide the bed back or up a little too. If you need to drop the tank, just disconnect the filler pipe, the two brackets (leave the straps in place) and lower it down carefully with a jack.

i had the same problem on my 82.   turned out to be the fuel rreturn line, as you mentioned.    i was able to remove the back 2 cab bolts, and front 2 bed bolts, jack it up a little, and get my hands in there to remove and replace the line.  droppingthe fuel tanak is not that hard, and  will probably take less time than what i did, but i had a ful tank of gas, and didn't want to siphon it out.   good luck

ive got that same issue 4x4 my brother and i learned in high school that a vehicle knows to wait until you have a full tank of gas to break. im sure theyre rusted to heck, ill give it a look.

my 73 cracked the starter mounts with 3/4 of a tank of gas, then the 82 return line with a full tank, so i agree with your theory.   also wanted to mention that while you have access to the lines, you may want to change out the other 2 lines as well.  once one goes, the others are sure to follow it's lead....
