Should I Swap Beds?
« on: April 27, 2009, 10:27:19 pm »
A friend of mine has a cherry stepside bed off of a 87. It has no dents, no rust and all of the wood in the bed is in perfect shape. It doesn't look like they ever hauled anything in it. He is willing to sell it to me but here is my problem I have already put alot of money in the bed I have. It has new fenders and steps, new tailgate and custom taillights. I would have to redo all of the custom work on this new bed. I think this other bed would save me money in the long run but I hate to redo what custom work that would need to be done. So what do you guys think should I get the other bed or should I finish the one I have?

If the price is right I say buy it. As you know good beds are gettin hard to find. Even if you don't use it now it's always good to have spare parts.  Bye the way, where did you find the new steps for your truck. I looked at Capt's store and didn't see them.

Is the non modded bed that much better than yours?

Yes the non moded bed is perfect. The inside of my bed needs alot of work, it is dented up from haulin stuff the stock bed looks like it has never had anything in it. The wood is still good too all it needs is rewatersealing. I know I have the new fenders and I hate to lose that but I will have to do alot of work to the bed sides on my bed that I would not have to do to the other one. My thinking is it would save me money and time in the long run. I would not have to buy a new bed floor or do all of the body work to the bed sides.

I would buy it and then figure it out. A nice stepside box is hard to come by.
