brake hoses for lowered truck?
« on: April 28, 2009, 09:33:36 am »
hi, i have 86 shortbox with lowered spindles and a arms. stock brake hoses wont fit due to the 90 degree bend coming off the caliper being too long. the 90 needs to be closer to the caliper to clear the upper arm and balljoint. does anyone have a gm number or napa part number for such an application? thanks

Are you saying you have lowered spindles AND lowered A-Arms?

I had to bend mine a little bit and they worked fine.

yes i do, but i think i'm gonna try bending them, as i read some other posts where that has worked. i wouldn't have tried it otherwise. if not i'll try some braided lines.

Yes you do have LCA and spindles?  If so they are not designed to be used together.
Companies that make braided line kits model them after the factory setup, so you will still have an issue.  Just bend them.

I hope they aren't or you are going to have serious issues with wearing out components not to mention it being a road hazzard.

Same as Vile and Capt recommended, I had to bend mine a little to fit with my lowering kit.

how can i tell if the lca's are the lowered one's? the spindles look new so i think they are the drop ones. hard to tell with the lca's though. and i can't give you an accurate picture, as there is no engine/trans in it yet to give a height measurement. if i remember though, the a-arm looked older and rusty.

It doesn't need a load on it to tell.

Lowered control arms are tubular construction.
Factory ones are stamped pieces.

ok, i'm safe, i had a look at the arms and they are the factory stamped. i guess it must either have just spindles, or else lowered springs as well. either way, all is well and safe. thanks for the heads up though.

I'm having the same issue with my 74. Lowered 4" with spindles and springs, what would be the best way to bend the fitting. Use a hammer and tap it or pliers, I just don't want to end up damaging it.

Thanks

I used the open end of a wrench to go around the hardine. I gently hit the wrench with a hammer until it cleared. I also had to pry it away from the caliper to clear the ball joint
