I came across this today while i was reading up on combustion chamber sizes and all that good stuff. Just wanted to see what you all think about it. Might be worth a try on a set of old crappy heads or something.

Very interesting. I'd need a little more information before I followed this guys advice, though. Maybe if you wanted to mess around with a junk 350 and a set of 882 heads, but you'd never catch me cutting grooves in a pair of dart heads.

I was actually thinking about it myself since i have a few crappy sets of heads and engines floating around i wouldnt mind trying it...worst that could happen is i screw up the heads and have to junk them...it makes for a good excuse to buy better heads...HAHAH

I saw that a while ago, interesting to say the least & due to seeing carbon wash patterns, ect. on pistons...I believe there are things going on in there that you can't exactly see, however I'm in the same boat. I would be thinking after a set were run a while & dropped off at the machine shop..."That's odd, You say my heads are cracked? Where?" Lorne
Here's another picture I put in my file to remind me to follow up later:

Manufacturers have blown away this technology years ago. As far as cutting groves in your already prone to crack cylinder heads would be something I would avoid.
check out SVCC, displacement on demand, atkinson cycle, and stratified charge engines.

he sez:
raise the compression to 10:1
Piston to deck should be .070"
resist the temptation to reduce it to .040"
then cut a 1cc canal in your heads

That's weird. But according to his article some manufacturers are already using this technique. Be kinda cool if you knew exactly what you were doing, but i would be too scared to go digging a channel in my heads. Guess i would try it if i had a ton of money or something.
