The Cab is Kinda Small, Can I Use Just One Sub?
« on: May 06, 2009, 07:09:12 pm »
hey guys, Im getting closer to having the entire interior completed. my tunes sound great, but Im going to need a sub behind the seat. I saw a guy on this forum with a neat fiberglass behind-the-seat-thingy but it had 3 12's in it.
For my cab maybe this is too much. but I do need something. can I get away with just one 10" in there? my budget is about 500 for sub and amp.. have any of you guys put one under the seat successfully? maybe theres enough room at the dip in the middle for a shallow 8" or something to warm things up a bit?

thanks for your thoughts on this,\

You could put one in the center console if you have buckets but one shallow one would sound like garb to me. Some people like the under seat ones. I would run two 10" subs

ok cool, thanks for your input. If under the seat is out for sound-quality, I understand.

2x 10"s sounds like it might be over-brutal.. Im kinda old  :)  does the seat kill it that much?

what I need is to get a center console with the sub in it... I currently employ the bench seating so my kids can drive with me.

Why not run full range truck boxes if you aren't looking for a mad thumper? Add some kick panel speakers and some decent dash speakers and rock n roll.

Ive got two Sony Expolde 12's in yellers truck that I modified a truck box for, but it is tight. Fortunately, I can put a big 12" or 15" box in my trucks ;D Sorry, just had to rub it in a little.

thanks for all the replies. I already have the memphis audio 6.5 coax in the kicks and 3.5 coax in the dash.

I think thatsingle 10" idea might be the way to go for me.

has anyone tried the bass tube-type subs with any luck, or are they poo-poo?

oooh awesome looking small subs. I would be interested in that box plan if you would be so kind. you can email it if you like to treepete@gmail.com if you have time, thanks.

I looked around at Best Buy and they didnt have the behind-the-seat box in stock, so maybe I can make them. I have all the tools for that etc.

I guess Ill need help with the math when I get to that point.
thanks for your help guys.

I did this to a couple different c10s when I had New Vision MotorSports Inc up and running.

Some ideas to try out....

-Mid 70s standard cab, bench seat, tall guy wanted all the room that I  could give him. I picked up his bench from the upholstery shop and did some fab work on it before they recovered it. I gutted the CENTER of the backrest and molded a box for a 12" sub and put a backplate on the passenger side to mount the amp. Ran the wires before it got covered so most of it was hidden and put the changer in the dip in the floor.

-Early 80's c10, standard cab, bench seat. The guy gave me permission to get creative (friend of a friend). I put both amps on the back of the seat, a single 10 in the dip and a Volcano vibrator under driver and passenger with Clarion in the dash. Sounded bigger than what it was.

-93 standard cab Z71, bench seat, big guy that wanted as much room and sound as possible. I sourced a 60/40 split out of an extended cab, mounted the amp on the back of his seat (40) and built a box for 2 solos (square subs) to put behind the 60 and vented under the seat towards the front of the cab. I found a very nice below the bed rail diamond plate tool box at TSC to store all of the tools and misc stuff he had layin around the truck.

I did more of 'em but they were just standard truck boxes with nothing fancy.

I have 2 of these and a memphis 500d amp sounds really good and does not take up much room at all it designed for small air space so little box works fine
