Can someone tell me what is the highest amp alternator that is commonly available that is our stock size/fits original brackets? I installed electric fans/water pump (pic's to follow) & would like to upgrade. Thanks, Lorne

well as far as like autozone and advance ect... i think is 94 amp.
thats what im using with my dual electric fans and a lot of electrical acc's.
best thing i ever did was a 850 CCA 1100 ca battery and all 4 gauge power and grounds.

Would not any SBC-fitting alternator work that has the typical brackets which bolt to the head? I have a chrome one on mine. I figure it's a 60 amp since it's not all that strong. I've seen 100 amp ones though and up to 120 amp from Powermaster. I think Summitt and/or Jegs has them.
85 Chevy Silverado C10 short, wide, yellow, 2wd. Lowered, 60-over 350 with Dart Iron Eagle heads and Comp Cams XE268 cam, TH350 w/ shift kit, 3.40 Gov-lok 12 bolt.

I think I might get me one. Mine looks exactly the same. Just the charge wire hooks up to it.

A good plan too is to the "big 3" upgrade. Put a 4 ga. charge wire from the battery to the alt., one from the battery ground to the frame, and a hefty ground strap from the engine to the frame. I did this on mine, as well as cleaned up the grounds that I could access like the wide braided engine-frame strap that was already on the truck and the headlight ground. I saw at least a 0.5V improvement. It was worth it for sure.

Thanks guys! I hadn't spent any time looking, but had seen the Powermaster, ect.
 Sux, Yes any "regular" one will work...I just made a nice mid-mount bracket set-up. Hindsight, I probably would have made the brackets for a smaller one. I haven't checked the draw from the fans, but the alternator is a little louder than before & getting hot, it's working hard for sure so it appears to be toast or at least not up to handling the added draw.
 Vile, Have you bought from that company before? 
 What about the "clock" position of the plug? I remember years ago, we had to rotate them for some applications, but the last one I bought had a sticker over the Two halves that said "Warranty void if re-clocked"...I guess they had too much trouble with people doing it wrong & returning them? I may want to get one with the plug opposite than original. Lorne

I've never used them but a guy I know bought one for his plow truck and it's still in there from 2 years ago.

Oh and my other buddy bought a marine one for his 350 in his boat which worked mint.

I had a 140 amp one built for my 1 ton. It was $86. Not chrome, but chrome don't get ya home!

Did you look into the msd's?  They have 160amps and should fit the stock brackets. i think #5110 is the one.

i was going to upgrade to these, but decided at $350 it was unessesary for my application.

The other thing is, i hear that the wiring to and from battery needs to be upgraded if you go with a  higher than stock alternator.  But you probably already knew that.
