Engine cutting out...fuel issues? 85 K-10

I just dropped a new motor in my recently purchased 85 K-10.  My issue is when I a step on gas shift through first then into second the engine cuts out totally and won't run.  I know it's not a distributor issue, it's brand new and the timing is set at 12 degrees initial.  The fuel pump is also brand new.  Could the dual fuel tanks be giving me trouble?  I hit the switch but only hear a noise when I select the left tank.  Should I by pass one of the tanks and try that, if so where is the switch?  Also, how are you all routing the fuel line from the line on frame to pump?  I still have on the factory pre-bent hose, could this be collapsing or sucking air?  It's really weird because I drove it 40 miles and had no issues, once I fired it up to head home the thing wouldn't run.  Any help would be appreciated...

This is carbureted with mechanical fuel pump? I would check for a kinked fuel hose.

It's mechanical.  I actually just re-routed the hose and replaced it with FI type hose.  It seems better but it is still cutting out at low RPM.  Could it be a hose from the sending unit to fuel line?  Could the carb be having issues?

Does it start ok and idle good? Or there a noticeable miss? I think it's recommended to set the timing at 8 degrees BTC- tho not sure it would cause that much drop in performance. Make sure the vac. hoses have not come off.  The sound from the tank switching motor should be noticeable when you switch to the right tank. BTW, the fuel filter is located on the r/h side frame just below the passenger door.

It start and idles very good, it's when you give it easy throttle under load.  Are you sure there is a filter on the frame even though it isn't a TBI?

Holley 600CFM 4160, it was not run in like 8 years before I put it on.  It was practically brand new...then.  It didn't look gummy.  Looked clean inside...but I didn't take it fully apart.
