454 Magnum Marine Engine
Picked up a 454 Magnum Marine Engine for my 1975 Jimmy.
Going into this...
It's basically this engine except that I've been told it's been bored out and has a more aggressive cam over original. It's a Gen VI block and has the roller cam.

Need to get intake, carburetor, distributor, headers, water pump, etc.

Very cool. I'd paint it red to match your truck.

Do marine engines require a cam change to rotate the proper way when installed in a vehicle?

I'm pretty sure marine engines rotate the same as street engines. The out drive is what makes them rotate in reverse like when you have dual props.

Or here's my excuse to paint the truck black to match the engine!
Just kidding... yeah we'll strip her down and paint her red.
This thing should really run strong, can't wait to crack the throttle sometime in the very near future.

i don't think you should use that motor for that blazer it would make her too top heavy. I'm sorry that you went though all that trouble getting a 454 but ill take her off your hand for little or no cost to me

Any opinions on Block Hugger Headers versus traditional long tube headers?
I want some quality headers on this engine and alway want it to be a little on the shake and roar side versus the quiet Casper Milk Toast side...
There's a set in the paper, no brand mentioned but they came off a engine in a 1935 Ford hot rod. Guy says they have a 3/8" thick flange, wants $65.00 for them.
Opinions?

Called and talked to the guy, he says there's no markings on them that he can see to reveal a brand name. He says they look like very high quality headers, not cheapies by any means. Says they have a large round exhaust holes on a 3/8" thick flange and all welds have been ground smooth. I need to find out if they'll fit the heads on my engine which are large rectangular port heads. I don't pick up the engine till next week so I don't have a reference to judge by. Anyone have a picture of what the exhaust side of my heads looks like so I can tell if these headers are the right type?
The guy that has them is gone all day but will give me a call when he's home so I can come by and take a look at them. (About 45 minutes from here). If they're the right type I'd like to get them as he's only asking $65.00 for them.

Went ahead and picked them up for $65.00
It doesn't look like they've ever been used, they're pretty clean and there's no marks on the flange from being the bolts/washers being torqued down.
I pick up the motor next Wednesday. I'm pulling the small block out of the Jimmy this Sunday. New engine has to go in the next Sunday. Needs to be road-ready on June 20th
