Tires and Wheels selection
« on: May 27, 2009, 06:54:22 pm »
Hey guys I am new to the site and I'm really finding lots of info, so thanks. I just bought a 1977 silverado c10 and want to put a set of ralley wheels on it. What i want to know is what size tire/wheel combo will i need to use to try to feel up the hole. As of now i have stock wheels w/ stock hub caps and it looks like the tires are sitting in to far like the wheels are in the middle of the car, HAHA. Any help would be appreciated.

There are two stock sizes for truck ralley wheels.  15x7 and 15x8.  If your goal is to fill the fenderwells, get the 15x8's.  From there 275/60-15 tires look good, especially if it has a slight drop (3/4).  Also, unless you run a staggered tire size, the rear track width is about 3" (I think?) narrower than the front, so some spacers could be used to even things out.

Oh, and welcome aboard.

Welcome from Maryland. You can find Ralleys on Craigslist, Ebay, your local paper, and or junkyards. I got my set(2 15x6.5's and 2 15x8's) with centercaps at a local junkyard for I think about $54.  Good luck!

Did you put the 15x6.5 in the front?

I will when the pocket fattens up a bit. I still need to buy 2 front tires for those wheels to match the height of the rears(275/50/15) that I already have. I need to finish sanding them down and put a coat of paint on them.

so is it better to run a smaller size on the front or use spacers on the rear to even it up, and do you have to even it up at all?

They came with the rear inset from the factory if that is what you are asking.

225/60r15s are just a fraction shorter(.2) and are about a little less 2 inches narrower than the 275/50s
216/60r15s are  less than an inch (.67) shorter and  about 2 1/4 inches narrower
195/75r15s are just a hair (.08) shorter but are over 3 inches narrower
Just depends on what look you want. Keep in mind, the section width is not the tread width. I figure at least an inch narrower on the tread.

No factory Ralley wheels will fill the wheel well. You will need spacers. A 3" back spacing on a 15 x 10 will put you flush with the rear fleetside fender. I picked up a set of ralleys and just through them on my truck the other day so I don't destroy mine while doing body work. I think I paid $40 bucks for a set of 15x8.5 5x5

I know it won't fill the wheel well flush to the side of the truck I just want to fill it up a little more than it is now. It looks like I'm on wagon wheels right now!

Thanks Chop, good to know. I've been measuring and looking on line at the BFG site since I want to match the 275's. I wouldn't mind filling up the wheel opening a little more with a taller tire but that's what I got so i'll use it.

That is one wheel I dislike the most and I keep ending up with them, lol. I had them on a 57 PU, my 81 came with a set, and my 85 is currently wearing them. You gotta do whacha gotta do I guess.

Mine are not that bad! I actually have the other set of stock hub caps that while not the prettiest are still better looking than those! HAHA, but hey like you said you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yeah their pretty bed lol. There's a nice coat of brake dust building up on them covering some of the rust.

There is one member on here (I can't remember which) that used a chrome center cap that also covered the lugs. It was an improvement and looked way better than mine.

I picked up a set of 1.5" wheel spacers for the rear of my truck and its one of the most eye pleasing thing I could have done for 50 bucks. No more retarded sucked in tires for this truck. I think i got them off ebay if im not mistaken, I would have to check the history, if not I have no clue. As it sits now, its got 15x8 all the way around and they all are exactly the same spacing to the fender to tire! awesome!
