Extended Cabs
« on: June 09, 2009, 06:19:39 pm »
Choptop I bet you will be able to answer this for me, I tried to do some research on the extended cab trucks and I would type in all sorts of things to try and avoid getting the newer style trucks. I'm curious to know how many were produced what years and such. Did GM make them or did some other private guy make them kind of like the old Yenko Camaros? Was it just a dealer special item? I would love to get my hands on one of those things. I know a lot of fellow chevy guys in my area would be extremely jealous if i got one. Haha. Thanks for the help in advance.

We have some of the information on our website from what we have heard, www.conversiontrucks.net . You can look there.  From what we know, Custom Vehicles International made them as an option.  The trucks were sent to them from the dealership to be converted to the extended cab.  From there, several customizers, Western Hauler, TRA tech, Stage Coach Customs, ond Overand Coach to do the interior and paint jobs.  Western Hauler conversions have a more puffy interior than ours.  If you go to our website, be sure to check out the gallery.  We have a lot of the photos in there of the trucks we have found.  Hope this helps some.  Kelly can fill you in more if you have any more questions.

If you look at the top menu bar (home, help, search, etc.) you will see gallery.  There are several different categories once you click on gallery.

We have heard 2510 from 84 through 87, but no hard evidence.  Nobody seems to have kept records.  We are trying to document all the ones we come across.  If they are pretty much original, they have a tag inside the door that tells what number they are for the year, I believe.  Did you see the one Kelly posted in Wisconsin?  Looks like a pretty good one.

The most I have heard was about 2500 from 84-87. But I have also heard only about 500 each year. Being hand built, I don't believe it could be too many and have found less than 50 since I started looking

Yes all of them were conversions.  There are no factory produced extended cabs for 73-87 trucks.
