How to install 1 piece back glass?
« on: June 10, 2009, 01:48:31 pm »
Picked up a 1 piece back window for a 73-87 yesterday. Not the 2 piece rubber gasket with cord but 1 piece rubber
How did you install it?

Heres what I want to try when I do it:

Soap up rubber very well and have someone press on window from the outside. Then put a small rope in the channel that fits on the body and then pull the rope from the inside and hopefully it will pull the rubber lip inside the cab all the way round

Dont know if this has been tried before but something I thought of

Also the rubber gasket, the bottom part on the inside had a lot of dirt on top of it like it was leaking. What to do to keep it from leaking? Do you recommend I put some sort of clear silicone caulk in the channel the glass fits in? Then maybe put caulk under the top rubber on the outside after its installed?

The rope, or insulated sranded wire works fine. Personally I would replace the seals around the glass and go with the zipper style.

Im sorry zipper style?

This is for a work truck I picked up for $650. Not looking to spend too much on it. Just whatever is needed to get it to run decent and work. Reason Im replacing is theres a sliding window in it now and all the black plastic pieces for the window are missing and it wont lock

What you described will work fine. Zipper style means the type with a locking channel in the rubber with a strip that goes in it from the outside.
