Tomorrow's the day - Help needed.
« on: June 12, 2009, 09:30:02 pm »
I knew this day would come.  Tomorrow morning I'm installing the lower ductwork in my 78 C-10.  I had to remove it to replace the radio.  Getting it out was a real pain.  Can anyone offer any hints on making this job go as easy as possible.  Or, is it not as bad as I'm thinking it is.  Oh ya, the truck has A/C.  Thanks, guys.

I've pulled mine out several times.  A few four-letter-words ought to do the job. ;)

Yes, I had to just about bend it in half to get it out, and then it wasn't easy.  I'll let you know.  By the way Ville, I'm envious of your abilities and your results.  Here I am concered about a a duct under the dash and you take repulling and going through a newly rebuilt engine like it was nothing.  Your work is beautiful, it gives me something to strive for, thanks.

Thanks Grover.

Patience and a positive attitude is key. If they can build it I can build it better is my way of thinking. Practice makes experience and that will help you develop your mechanical skills. Go to harbor freight or the like and waste some money on some tools every once in a while and the more jobs you take on the easier it will be.

Well I got the radio installed, also got the heat/A/C ducting installed.  Wasn't as bad as I had thought.  Had time when i was done to spray the dash pad.  I used a rattle can of SEM, that stuff is really great for spraying vinyl.  I'm not really ready for the interior yet, I just wanted to try a different color - it was too red in there.  I'm thinking the truck will end up powder blue.  The dash pad is now parchment.  I'm going to relocate the the gas tank in a couple of weeks.  I'm also going to move the fill locations from the side to inside the tail light ala '56-'57 Chevys.  I'll post a couple of the dash pics tomorrow.  The radio itself was a neat find.  This guy resolders all the broken and cracked cold solder joints, then cleans and lubes the radio.  Then, this is cool, he puts a jack (or hardwires) for an Ipod or whatever modern toy you want to play.  Thanks guys
