Bugwash don't work
« on: June 15, 2009, 04:23:38 pm »
Hi all just wanted to ask if any of yall know about the windshield washer system. 1987 model, if it even matters. I got a brand new handle, or bar for the blinker/cruise/wipers/bugwash. It's the little bar you have to use to use your blinkers. That fixed the cruise control, but the windshield washer fluid still will not spray. Im sure this is a very simple little system. It is full of a water/bugwash solution, but i cant get it to spray. So should i just replace the motor? I guess i should also ask... Where is the motor? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It's in the washer bottle. Get a test light and see if you have B+ when you energize the switch.

First thing to do is see if the pump runs when you call for washing fluid.
Then if it doesnt, test for volatage. If no voltage, its electrical problem somewhere
If there is voltage to the pump but no sign of it running or anything go get you one from the junk yard and put it in
If the motor does run and no fluid through the nozzles, then you got a plug somewhere, most likely in the nozzle
Simple trial and error troubleshooting

ya thats what i figured. But i am glad yall told me that it's in the tank, i would have never found it heh. But er... yall know if anyone else besides the junkyard sells a new little pump? I don't really like junkyard consumable parts. Even if it's only semi consumable like this electric motor. In other words, im afraid it would just go out again in a year and i would prefer to buy a brand new one instead.

Check your chain parts stores, one I was in last weekend had one for my 73 hanging on a rack.  Unfortunately,  I was in 3 of them and I don't remember which one it was.
