Rear fender undercoating 77 stepside??
« on: June 16, 2009, 08:12:55 AM »
I am looking for advice regarding doing some kind of undercoating of new rear fenders to prevent rock pings in them. Aftermarket fenders just painted outside with base and 3 clear. Nothing done to underside yet.
I talked to a local Rhino lining shop yesterday and they will spray them for $75 each. I have Rhino bed lining in my newer Chevy truck and as we all know, tough as h.... Should I go with Rhino or what? Any experience or advice is needed soon. Truck will go to local car shows but certainly not be a true show truck so I am not worried about correctness, just rust and dent prevention. Thanks

I used herculiner coating on the bed of my 01 ram.I also used herculiner on the top and bottom as well as the inside of my cowl as well.I`m planning on doing the inside of my rear fenders as well with this stuff after its painted..The kit runs you 90.00 and it`ll save you that much in money doing it yourself.

hope this helps.

thanks

You couldn't pay me to use Herculiner. No activator, has no protection against UV rays, or any of the elements. Plus the stuff wears off after a few years.
SEM makes a great spray on bed liner. About $170 for the kit. You need their gun or a Rocker Shutz gun also works OK. It has an activator that forces it to dry chemically not just by being left out and the thinner evaporating out of it.

My friend did the entire underside of his 87 K10 with rhino liner and it still looks mint nearly 15 years later

Well so far its been a few months and we had a few pallats of 16x16 red brick in the back of the  dodge ram truck and loaded onto the bed by a forklift and not a single peel on it.. Its a matter ofprep and opinion blazin if we all agreed on the same principals this world would be boring... I agreed on not using dupli colors bed coating and i was  very happy i didnt.. I herculined the inside and underside of the cab and i guartanee you it wont ever fade lol... But if you dont put a UV protection on it sure it`ll fade but since my 01 ram is black, having a flat black bed coating is better then having a scratched up rusted floor thats unprotected and will rot...

thanks
