New metal for back glass

Since we dont have a glass forum, i guess this is the place for this. You know that metal trim that goes around the outside of the sliding rear glass window? I am talking about the black metal piece that sort of tops it all off. Not sure if there are other layers, but if you have the sliding rear window, you have this metal trim that sticks out away from the cab just a little bit. I have looked up the previous owner to the the truck, and it would seem he was the stereotype old man with a camper. I just noticed this today, but it seems the top of his camper has rubbed a hole clear through the very top of the metal trim for my rear window. Kinda irritating, really. Anyway, do i have to replace the whole seal, or can i just buy the very top piece and replace that? Cause for now i would really like to get those holes fixed. I have not decided yet whether or not to keep the sliding back glass, (in favor of a solid one) but until i do i really don't want rainwater just draining it's way down into those holes. I would love to get to keep the sliding back glass, but as we all know they are a bit of a thief magnet. And you may have also noticed that these old trucks are becoming more and more sought after, as time goes by. Here is a pic of my problem, click to enlarge.

Several folks made sliders for aftermarket and GM had a version as well.  I think you would have to replace the whole window, either with another slider or go with a solid.  My $.02

Yeah i think you're right, but i was hoping someone here knew something i didn't.

I prefer the look of standard solid window myself, cuts down on the wind noise.  I will be putting a slider I harvested from a parts truck in my 86 with no AC though.

The only other option I could think of is to have the holes welded up.  I wanna say that the frames on those windows are made out of aluminum, so you will need to take it to someone that knows how to weld aluminum if you don't.  Just my $.02.....now you have $.04.

Yeah i took a closer look at the window itself, and it seems that they are in a way like a sunroof. Not that they are in the top, but they are sort of like an option, and they are not a GM made part. The brand of mine is CabAire. So that sounds like something that you could opt for, and they installed for you or something. Kind of like a sunroof.

Just get another slider and a new gasket. I just bought 2 new sliders and they don't make it any easier to break in. All you have to do is pop the vent window and reach in. It take about 10 seconds to be in one of these trucks. These trucks came with sliders or solid rear windows from GM.

Well it looks like i just need an entirely new unit. They metal on the sliders doesn't cling to the glass, there is that big hole in the pics, and even when it does work it is pretty hard to slide it. Know anywhere that sells 'em cheap?

I just picked up a 1 piece back window w/ 1 piece gasket at the junk yard for mine. I have a sliding window right now missing the plastic/metal trim around the sliding window pieces and there 1/2" gap
Just need another person to install it.
Isnt that how it always goes? 

Plus mine leaks at the bottom corners ftl

Yeah, i am starting to think they are more of a pain then they are worth. Probly be cheaper to do a solid back glass anyway.
