Rustoleum?
« on: June 20, 2009, 01:37:42 am »
Anyone ever try painting their truck with rustoleum? Been reading a few articals on it and sounds like a cheap way to dress up a ride. Or see if thats the color you really want on your truck without spendin to much cash.

My opinion is I wouldn't. Good chance of having issues with it when you try and paint over it with real paint. Last time I looked Rustoleum wasn't that cheap, plus at a minimum you will still need to by a reducer. Oh yeah as far as rust protection goes it might have been the cats but 20 years ago, it ain't crap compared to stuff on the market today.

I painted 2 trucks with rustoleum. Both came out fantastic and I sold them lol. If its a cheap quick paint job you're looking for as a temporary deal fine but like Blazin said there are better alternatives. Duplicolor has cheap paints readily available http://www.duplicolor.com/index.html

Going to be my first time doing a paint job myself. I figured it would be a cheap way to learn. This is on my freebie 84 k10 that is goin to be my beat around truck. My buddy just goes to the paint supply store and buys the paint they messed up mixing the color. So blazin what would you recomend that would be a forgiving paint for a novice painter and any tips to help me out? Thanks.

The rustoleum will work I just think its not that much cheaper, and it might have issues painting over it later. Any cheapola acrylic enamel will work. Non metallic solids colors are More forgiving if you need to wet sand, and buff a run out. Prep, and tape work will make or break a paint job. Go to borders and buy a couple books on body /  painting. They will be your best bet.
