The Trip to autozone
« on: June 22, 2009, 01:07:05 am »
To begin with me and a couple Buddy's 9 of us all together went out to race go carts after spending 3 hours beating and bangin off the walls and off each other, we go out to hooters kind of a week in advance bachelor party for my friend lee. now since most of us have wives and we didn't really feel like going to a topless bar we decided to go to hooters but our wives didn't think even going there was a good ideal so they chewed us all out lol. so i was in a bad mood after that and i was tired my buddy lee needed a u joint from the zone so we pull in i stay in the van four of them go in to use the bath room and what not they come back out knowing i used to work at autozone i knew the store manager from there and a couple employs. well it turns out there all new so i didn't know anyone we explain to the boy that he has a 1/2 tranny and 1 ton rear so you get the picture he needs a "custom" u joint. the boy goes and gets the 12/ and 1 ton u joints then starts looking up fords and dodges for what idk, at this point he was starting to tick me off now i never say anything to anyone if i do i make a joke about it. well he told my buddy "why don't you go home and do some research and then take some measurements then come back to me" that was all i needed i told him" you know when i used to work here i would take both those u joints (for the 1/2 ton and 1 ton) and find the u joint that fits what i need so he said with an attitude "you know how many u joints we have back there i responded right back " like i just said i used to work here i know you have a whole "crap" load of them" mind you at this point he wasn't even look at me he started to play with the dial caliper he was using to measure the u joints. he then says with a laugh " yeah I'll be back there all day playing with my "butt", i replied back you ain't got nothing better to do your over stocks pulled your trash cans and tool boxes are in you have two gray shirts to close the store and its only six o'clock" well by this time my buddies were behind me just about rolling and the floor they know me i never speak up, and yet this boy pushed me to that point so lee grabs me and says to the boy its OK were leaving. so we left with no u joint disappointing day if you ask me well the second half was at least.

I keep a list of any parts that are different because I modified it for that reason. I dont have time to argue about stupid things, and I dont expect everyone to know all the different type of mods out there. Not for the pay those guys get.  You have to keep in mind, not everyone is a gear head. They do have to work to pay the bills. If you worked there, you should have been able to tell him where it was or what the part number. Sounds like you just had a bad day

Like chop if its a odd part I keep a list. If its a standard part I look it up first (at Advance too, to see who is cheaper) and just give them the part number

Autozones around here refuse to look stuff up by part number unless its their part number!
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

I don't I just go some where else and explain to them they just lost business, because they refused to crossreference a part number. I know a guy that used to work at one of them. he said they have theability to cross reference numbers. They don't because they don't want to be responsible for getting it wrong! My rebuttal is well they are responsible for that when they look it up by application, whats the difference?

We dont have an issue here. I know a few of the people who work there, and they are good. They also "think outside the box" on some occasions and come up with different ideas for problems. This is farm and ranch country. You have to think that way sometimes.

I dont have much choice I have Advance (were they still dont think chevy made a K5 in 88) or Autozone where they only know rice burners . Napa is up the road but the deal mostly with the shops here and with my schedule the are usually closed. So I look the parts up and check there stock so when I go in there they cant tell me the dont have it lol

if i would of known the part number that would of been diffrent but this was something lee just did because he broke his 3/4 yoke and the u joints are grouped usually close to one another by size so it would of taken maybe 5 min at the most to do it the "hard" way , then it would be on there computer what number it was. i wasn't expecting him to know what i needed just show a little more support in trying to find the joint i mean he could of just disappeared for a couple min and that would at least make me think he tried.
