What's with GM and diesels?
« on: June 23, 2009, 05:26:46 pm »
How come nobody want's a chevy dually? Im not going to look it all up but the numbers are something like, for every 20 fords or dodges there is like 1 chevy dually. I know "Chevy" and "Diesel" have never really mixed, but dang you would not think it would be this bad. It's clear when i go into Fort Worth/Dallas, and i see 50 Fords, maybe 60 Dodges, and 1 or zero chevys. I look for em. I never see em. They have always had a bad rep for diesels. My theory is this: It's Isuzu's fault. LOL. They use an isuzu diesel, where as Ford uses International, and Dodge uses Cummins. What do you think?

I would say it's alot based on price, a Cummins Dodge can be bought for about $10K less than a GM, Ford finds their way about half way in between. I just sold a 2006 Duramax/Allison there are a few out here but it really comes down to money.

I am going to put a 5.9 Cummins in this Crew Cab shortbed this winter, I'm already gathering up the pieces.

There isnt a shortage of them around here. Granted most are 3/4 ton duramax's, but there are plenty. Ford has cut their own throat around here with the 6.4 and the 6.0 powerjokes, Dodge is plentiful like IHI4X4 said due to price. That and the fact if your Ford breaks, there is a 3-4 week waiting period for repairs.

There's a good bit of chevys around here, I think the chevys and dodges are about even but there seem to be more fords.  Like say 60% fords and 40% chevys-dodges

They all are junk, just chevy has a higher priced piece of junk. Believe it or not VW makes the most efficient diesel's in mass produce. Soon enough these guys will catch on and whoever does it first with a good truck will corner the market.

That would involve actual effort, engineering, R&D...no, no, no...that's too much work for the big three.  It's much easier to have another firm design and produce the diesel, slap your name on it, throw it in your truck, and go merrily on selling inferior products to a market that seems to adore cheap junk.

I know I love my cheap piece of junk truck.  Isn't that what brings us all here?  LOL.

Everyone is copying Toyota's technology especially for Hybrid's. It looks like all we want is to cry broke and complain that people aren't buying "American" products anymore. No wonder you're not seeing any Chevy's over there.

Cry me a river, big three. It's survival of the fittest, and right now you are looking pretty unfit. Let em die due to their own incompetence, i say. When that happens, someone better always appears to fill the gap. Maybe we need a new american car company with all the best atributes of the current big three, and none of their downfalls.

Well that's not what we are going to get,................ Our great leader decided that he would take "our" money and keep these failing bussinesses afloat, had they been allowed to go into a conventional bankruptcy someone with good bussiness practices would have purchased the assets like the Chevrolet brand, Cadillac brand ect. and would have created a leaner viable company. Instead we now have two inflated pig companies belching out our tax dollars. They will still fail, it will just take them a little while longer now.

The funny thing is this, all the talking heads want to say that Fiat has bought Chrysler. Fiat was GIVEN 9 BILLION TAX DOLLARS to take Chrysler, how is that buying something?

Sorry I stated $9 Billion when it's really only $8 Billion. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601103&sid=aYJEcjpB.kFQ

Fiat is getting 20% of Chrysler for zero dollars, none, nada, nothing. US and Canada have also sweetened the deal by guarenteeing up to $8 billion in loans to the "New Chrysler".

So a hick like me sees that it was given to Fiat plus they will get $8 billion in new money to make a go of it.

If Fiat actually shares some small car technology with this new Chrysler then they will get 35% of the company.

This Obama dude is a real tuff at this negotiating thingy, huh?

Skunksmash,

Never gave it much thought, but now that you mention it...

Around these parts of the country, RURAL east central IL, most (farmers) drive Ford F250 & F350 Powerstroke Diesels or V10's. Second is the Chevy Duramax Diesels, last are the Dodge Diesels. And when you see a Dodge Diesel around here, it's always an older one. So definitely different compared to your area.

Everyone on my wife's side in the family is a farmer and when I talk trucks to them, they never complain about the Duramax Diesels or the old 7.3 PSD or the 6.4 PSD. they're well liked. But everybody just b!tches up a storm about the Ford 6.0 PSD!
