Steering Wheel Alignment

Hey Vile, you posted this back in 2006 informing one of the fellow members how to align the steering wheel to center.

 "Lock the steering wheel straight ahead and measure the distance at the leading edge of the front tires and then the trailing edge of the front tires directly at the centerline. Adjust the tie rod linkages to be equal and you will have zero toe."

Can you please elaborate on this process?  I have the same issue and would like to correct it.  Thanks

Turn  your wheel were it is centered.
Lock it with a wedge so it won't move.
measure the front side of the tires left to right to the out side edge at the center of the rim
measure the back side of the tires left to right to the out side edge at the center of the rim  (this is going to be the tough part)
Turn the tie rod sleeve until the front length equals the rear. 

Keep in mind 0 toe is not how it should be setup for driving...

K10, 20 & 30 are zero toe.

C-10, 20 & 30 are .36° (with a tolerance of .116°) or .060" total toe

What kinda truck are we talkin here?

85 C10 with 3" Beltech Lowering spindles.

So for your home job alignment find the center of the distance between the leading and trailing edge of the tires with them pointed straight. Then adjust the toe as close to zero as you can get with the wheel pointed straight ahead.

Individual toe is set to the geometric centerline and then total toe falls into place. This will get you close enought to drive and get yourself to the alignment shop.
