Automatic Start Alarm Problems
« on: July 09, 2009, 01:00:41 am »
I currently tried to install an automatice start alarm in my truck. I got everything hooked up in there, I'm just having problems with starting it with the remote. It winds up and everything but it wont start. And there is this wire that says tach or tachless I think that is why it wont start. Does anyone know where that wire goes to or if i really need to use it? I thought it went connected to the distributor so i connected it to the ground on there and it wont start. Please anybody i need help or tips on what i can do.

The thing with carbs is you usually have to pump the accelerator. Don't know how you're going to insert that step in the automatic start. EFI figures it all out.

Well right now since its hot it really doesnt need the pumping and my cousin got his installed in a 85 chevy c-10 305 evertyhin stock and his works fine everything seems to be hooked up the same. Everytime i push the button on the remote it cranks up but doesnt start im thinking it might need just like something special to send a spark to get it started.

Depress the gas pedal 1 time and then try it to see what happens.

try this.....try to start it the old fashioned way without pushing the gas pedal.  Just get in and turn the key.  Does it fire right up?  If not, don't expect the miracle starter to start it.

Try it when the engine is warm after running a while.  That is usually when all you need to do is bump the starter.

If you can fire up the engine without pushing the gas at all, then, the remote starter should work.  If it still doesnt work, check for fire with one spark plug while turning it over with the remote starter.

Agreed, when I bought my alarm, I didnt bother getting the remote start since my truck is carbed. You could always fab up some kind of motor/actuator that will pump your carb before starting. Hook it up to the secondary output(trunk most likely) on your alarm. Push the secondary button, then the remote start and it should work, but I havent done anything like this, so its mostly speculation.
