It has a 305 with 194k miles on it. Fresh 10w30 conventional oil with acdelco filter. Is 6psi oil pressure at hot idle in gear with foot on the brake acceptable? I ask because it trips the check gauges light. I hooked up a mechanical gauge at the port by the oil filter to verify the pressure.

Low yes, but I have had some old SB engines have 5 psi at idle when hot and last for years with no problems. Just keep an eye on the oil level and with almost 200K on it 10W-40 probably wouldn't hurt you either... My $.02

I would just live with the light, it may sometime come on if you say overheat and you are going down the road. Again, My $.02
