How to turn the bed over???
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:24:04 pm »
My son got a spare bed when he bought his truck last month.
We pulled the rusted one off, this weekend.
Now we need to install the "less" rusty one.
The problem is that it's sitting on a trailer upside down.
Without having a crew of big guys around to help, how can we flip it over?

I've thought about running tie down straps in an X fashion at each end and then
hoisting it up with the chains at the center of the X.
Once in the air, we will try to rotate it over.

Not sure that this will work, but it's all I've come up with, so far.
Anyone else got a better suggestion?

This thing is heavy enough that I don't think we can risk letting it hit the ground.
It will certainly bend the sides, if we try flipping it, on the ground.

Thanks, Allan

I stood my 8 foot bed up by myself when I brought it home. A tow strap and some plywood can help. Wet it down to make it easier to slide off the trailer on the wood then just upright it.

Any pics of how it's loaded on the trailer?. If the headboard of the bed is facing the rear of the trailer 2 guys should be able to stand it up facing the headboard toward the ground.

Here is a picture of the bed on the trailer.
Upside down and sideways.
(I didn't help load it.)

I'm concerned that we'll bend the sides, at the lower front corners, if we try to tip it, on the ground.
This thing is pretty heavy, and there is just two of us available to get it upright.

Thoughts, suggestions, comments, etc...

I would put one person in the front and one in the back.  Lift and push it to, the what would be the front, of the bed.  Get in the trailer and tip it up with the person up front guiding it to the ground.  Go ahead and stand it right up.  Walk to the side and push it on over to right side it.  You wount hurt it, it's a Chevy. ;)

P.S.  Just be careful and take your time.  We don't need anybody getting hurt...

On person at the front of the bed and one at the back. Lift the bed off the trailer and set it on the ground in the same position it is in on the trailer. Then flip it up on end (with the front of the bed down). Then get one person on either side by the fenders and flip it the rest of the way.
