My Truck Is Gone =(
« on: September 05, 2009, 12:48:21 am »
To make a long and embarrassing story short, my truck has been given away. I got into some trouble and my mom and dad decided to get rid of my truck. I didn't really want to talk about it at first, but it's really got me down. Before I got this truck, I wasn't very much "into" cars/trucks. But it didn't take long for me to fall in love with it! I got a spray-in bedliner right away because the bed was in good shape, I put in an all new stereo with speakers, and cleaned it all out because it was used as a work truck. Here is a picture of how it was when I got in on Christmas of 2007:

After driving it more and more, I wanted to make it more "mine." I put on a set of progressives with brand new tires, and that's when I started dumping money into it. I rebuilt a 350 and put it in, I put a shift kit in the 700r4, I painted the interior, I got new carpet, And I faithfully changed the oil and washed it at least every weekend. I crashed it once, but I paid $600 cash to get it fixed ASAP. I even got my senior pictures done with it. I could go on and on, but I just feel really crappy about it. I'll never see it again, because it's out of the city now. All I know is that it was given away to someone that my dad probably knows. I put a note in the glovebox telling the new owner to come to this forum if they ever need any advice/info. Here's one of the nicer pictures I have of it:

I'm sure I'll still come on here just because I've grown used to being on here to learn and see other people's projects and stuff, but don't expect to see any more threads about my truck.  :'(

Hey, your 17 - it's almost your job to get into trouble.  Next time you'll be a little smarter and don't worry, there will be another of our trucks waiting for you when the time is right.  Hang in there, bud.

sounds to me like you are very passionate about your truck.  That is good.  Take that same passion with you to a job interview and you will be set.  Care about your job as much as you care about your life as they go hand in hand.  Before you know it a new ride will be under you.

Your punishment seems a little harsh, but not as bad as visiting you in prison or even worse the cemetary. Dont know what you did, dont want to know what you did, just hope you learned something. Another truck will come by. Keep your head up, and stick around with us to gain the knowledge needed when that next truck comes around. Believe it or not, it sounds like your parents do care alot about you, otherwise they wouldnt have done anything. Keep on the right path, and things will definately get better. We all have gotten in trouble, and Im sure many of us have done whatever you did (once again, dont want to know) so dont feel like the Lone Ranger.

That's really sad that they took it from you and actually got rid of it. What the devil did you do? After putting so much work and time into something that's seems like a pretty lame punishment.

Sorry to hear that.  But like others have said, you'll find another truck or maybe another different project down the road.  And what you've learned about working on your own vehicle is yours to keep forever.

Definitely a harsh punishment. I remember reading your 1st post, so I revisited it and saw that your dad restored the truck and gave it to you on Christmas..he must be pretty bummed out too. I hope your relationship with him hasn't suffered too much that it can't be repaired. That's what's important-There's a truck on every block.  Too bad you lost those wheels with it.
Well that's what we do- rebuild. So now ya gotta get busy and get stronger thru the mistakes made. Just like your dad- we're still here for you.

That really sucks cause technically it was yours and and you put alot of your own parts and money into it.  Realistically they shouuld have just taken it away temporarily or revoked you licence, although I don't know the circumstances surrounding the situation.  In any case, take it as a lesson learned and hopefully you'll find a new 73-87 to have fun with.

That depends.  A high school friend of mine just lost his brother to drugs, and IMO the family just didn't show this kid some tough love.  He was the type who was always in trouble in high school, spent some time in Juvi, quit school and got in with some bad people, and spend the next ~20 years in and out of prison.  He just got out again 2 months ago, and last week the family got the call that he ODed on heroin and died.  I don't know his exact age, but probably 35 or 36.  He put his family and friends through a lot, probably more pain than he put himself through.  If only someone gave him a good shot in the butt.....

Unoffical, it sucks now, but I imagine that was harder for your old man to do thank you think.  You'll secretly thank him when your older.  Learn from this.

That truck may come back around.  I bought a '72 Chevelle off a guy who was going through a tough time with a baby on the way.  His girlfriend cried when he sold it.  My dad did all kinds of work on it while I was away at college, and after I got married we decided to sell it to help pay for the renovation on my first house.  While I was putting the For Sale sign on it in the front yard, the same guy was dropping his now 5 year-old daughter off at a friends house across the street.  He couldn't believe his eyes!  Long story short, he paid me cash for it the very next day.  It does happen, just keep your nose clean and keep paying back the karma.

I just want you guys to know that personally, I feel that I deserve this. Long story short, I got two reckless driving tickets in the past 6 months. My license is suspended, and I don't have any hard feelings towards anyone. I feel bad for my parents, especially my dad. He knows how much that truck meant to me, and I'm sure it wasn't easy for him to do that. I disagree with my dad with some things, but I love him, and this won't change that. I didn't want to tell you guys about the tickets, because I don't want to be judged.  :(

I'm not a bad kid. I get straight A's, I don't drink or do drugs, and I stay out of trouble. However, I get a little cocky behind the wheel, and I took it too far. I feel that I've learned a lesson, but I don't tell people that because they most likely won't believe me. Right now I'm saving every single dollar I make so I can pay my ticket(s) and save for a vehicle. I've got a pretty rough road ahead of me, and I blame nobody but myself.

I bet ya you'll drive that truck again, They took it and stored it away. Thats what I would have done if one of my boys goofed up like that. You do feel remorse and responsible, Thats good. You have learned a good lesson. Move on and get them tickets paid up and save your money.
And hope to heck I'm right!
 Steve

BTW you have to see it from there point of view, insurance ain't cheap and with a wreck and them reckless ops the insurance probley doubled!

Sounds like your dad was just trying to protect you from yourself before you had to learn the real hard way.  But lets put things into perspective here.  You're not an axe murder, or an arsonist, or a junkie.  You're a teenager, who, like so many other teenagers, gets a little stupid behind the wheel.  You seem to be very mature in the way you're handling this, so I'm sure things will work out fine for you.  Learn from your mistakes, but try not to beat yourself up too much.

Oh, and I also think you haven't seen the last of your truck. ;)

I really appreciate the support and stuff, but I can't be convinced that I'll see my truck again.  :(

When I got my first ticket, my mom wanted my dad to get rid of the thing. She didn't want to see it again. My dad assured me that things would get better, and they did. I was driving my truck again within a month and a half. But this time, there was none of that. Both of my parents were furious beyond belief. I had to spend the night at my friend's house, because it WAS NOT safe to go home that night. And within a week, my dad took my truck out of the city. I believe he took it up north to someone he knows up there. I doubt I'll see it again.  :(

Your not alone in the reckless driving department. Most of us here have done it, but were fortunate enough to not get caught, or worse killed or kill somebody else. Ive seen over 150mph in a car more than once. It was in the middle of nowhere on a flat, straight road, but that doesnt justify the fact that I was an idiot. As a youth director, teenage drivers is something I deal with regularly. I have a girl who rolled a very low mileage 02 Z71 because she was driving to fast, another who was making payments on a car he couldnt drive because he blew the motor street racing, and have a car in my shop now that had a fairly new motor in it, but is trashed now because of street racing. I encourage racing, but only on the track. I know they're gonna race anyway, so I try to get them to take it to the track where there is safety in place. If I catch them doing it, I guarrantee their car wont be running for a while. They all know my thoughts and I tell all the new ones that show up, "Id rather have you mad at me and alive, than be a good friend visiting their grave." Not gonna haopen. Dont beat yourself down too much, you seem to have learned from this, and rest assured, youre not alone. Hang in there.
