Blazer won't start
« on: September 22, 2009, 05:13:41 pm »
This might not be the right place for this, but here goes.

I've got a 75 blazer that is in need of a little TLC. I've got the interior gutted with plans of bedliner. A few days ago I had to jump it off, Sunday it started on its own and while working on it I think I left the key turned to on. Now it won't start. To maybe make matters worse, it rained last night, while the blazer had no top on. When I put the charger on and try to start it, I can hear the charger "ground out", like a loud humming noise. Any ideas on what the problem is? Have I screwed myself? I don't think any water got to anything important, because there was still dust on the dash pad and gauge cluster. For a while the lights would work and the horn would honk, but now nothing happens.
Thanks for the help,
Carson

so when you try to stater it it just hums no click or anything just a hum. almost sounds like a starter problem but will have to know more about it give it time to charge almost sound like not enough juice also, maybe your wipers are on? then try it if still nothing then try jumping the starter with the key in the on position. i don't think the ran hurt you any i take mine in the mud and mu buddy leaves his top off all the time and goes mudding

Ground noise as in it isn't turning over.  Sounds like a stuck solenoid.

Well, after being on the charger all last night and today, the horn will try to honk and I can hear the starter click. The lights still won't turn on and the outer ring (with the ears) on the ignition switch cylinder came off when I pulled the key out. It's been raining here all day, so I'm limited on what I can troubleshoot tonight.
Thanks for the help

Check your fusible links and replace the battery.

I'm pretty convinced at this point that it is just the battery

Might sound dumb but, did you take the battery cables off the battery and clean the terminals and clamps?

I put a "hot" battery in it and it cranked. I still think that I'm gonna go with a ezwiring kit pretty soon.
Thanks for all the help and input

keep the charged bat in there and give it a day or too and see what it does
