pinion angle
« on: October 05, 2009, 04:30:27 pm »
everyone talks about having the correct pinion angle after lowering, but noone says what it is.  What is the correct pinion angle for a 1/2 ton longbed and the correct way to find it?  I know I will have to get one of those angle finding dohickies at the Home Depot, but where is the correct place to put it on the pumpkin?  I'm quite aways off from setting it as the truck is total taken apart.  I painted the frame last weekend.  I would imagine that one would need to have the truck totally assembled so it would have the correct weight/ride height.

This has been discussed here, but...
put it on the end of the yoke of the rearend and it should be about 3-4 degrees UP
put it on the END of the output shaft of the transmission (on the seal face) and it should be 3-4 degrees DOWN.

Yes, you want it as close to "driving weight" as possible. Setting it up with the bed, back bumper, gas tank, ect. off (while it would make it easier to do ;)) will not give you accurate data for going down the road. Lorne
