I've got an 83 K20 with a 6.2, sm465, 4x4 with 4.56 diffs...  It's good for pullin' stumps, but falls on it's face on the freeway.

I heard somewhere a guy put unimog diffs in a full size blazer, but his gears were too low so he put a low range box in backward to make high range gears.  Anyone here have any experience/ideas?

I thought about a tail shaft OD from GearVendors or the like, but they only have a .7 to 1, and I was looking to split my gears by about .5...

Any good ideas?  I'd like to get 70mph out of this pig without being so high in the revs.

With your transmission having granny low I would look into a gear change.  I have no problem moving anything with my 3.21 gear in low and my 70 mph rpms are reasonable.  Anything is possible if you have the pocketbook and/or fabrication skills

It's one of those things that I'm going to use once in a blue moon, but when I need it, I REALLY need it.  I don't NEED 4x4 at high speed, so a tailshaft overdrive would work fine, I just don't think it's worth 2500 bux, especially when I'm clever with junkyard parts...

I'm still in the early planning phases, as the money is going to trickle in over the next few months, and I want to invest in better fuel econ on the highway.
