Tall Valve Cover
« on: October 18, 2009, 09:11:16 pm »
i have a 1980 c30 and i have the long style a/c compressor mounted on the driver side i really want to run the tall valve covers but after looking at my motor i realized that there is no room for them because of the a/c so i was wondering if i could switch it out for the smaller a/c compressor using different bracket or something like that  i tried to search but didn't really come up with anything and i don't really want to modify the brackets i have now... i need a new a/c compressor so if i could just switch them out that would work great

Welcome aboard Snapdaddy.

I have the 1.6 / 2.02 valves, tall valve covers in my 383 stroker in my '79 and have the long compressor.  I had to grind the rear compressor bracket a little, not for the clearance of the tall covers, but, for the edelbrock aluminum intake...i kinda notched it out just a little..not big deal.

You won't be able to run tall covers on a 454.  You could swap the front setup to the later style compressor

it seems as though you should be able to fabricate something quite easily, even if you need to get a different (longer) fan belt.  Get some angle iron, then weld the original bracket on top of that and drill two holes in the bottom part for the intake bolts...I could have some fun with that designing something.
