Oil filters
« on: November 04, 2009, 01:53:40 pm »
Just curious, my trucks hold more oil pressure with good old acdelco filters than any other filter. I've used fram, wix, in house brands, you name it and acdelco just makes better pressure. Anyone else experience this? Anyone know why?

Are you sure you're just not noticing the better pressure with fresh new oil? Cut open an AC delco filter you just pulled off your truck. You'll be amazed at what a piece of junk it is. Not only that but AC delco filters have been counterfeit all over the US. I stopped using them in the 90's.

I look at the gauges on my trucks with each oil and filter change and note the pressure and I definitely get better pressure with acdelco filters. This is with all of my trucks

I've got a bunch of sealed ac delco filters from the 80's I think . I used one on my last oil change 1500 kms ago . Based from my factory gauge I'm up a bit more than before . I normally use wix filters though

For the most part I use WIX.  Doubt that they are the best, but they work for me.

I always use wix, or NAPA filters. NAPA filters are made by wix.

If the pressure sender is before the filter in the flow of oil, and you are getting more pressure on the gauge, that means the filter is flowing less. If the sender is after the filter and you are getting more pressure on your gauge then the filter is flowing more.

When my dad was still alive (He was a retired old school self employed mechanic) he used to cut oil filters open to see how well they worked. Now that I think of it...he used only ac delco filters when he was in business, about the time wal-mart started selling ac delco he stopped using them and switched to a parts store brand made by wix. I showed up one day with a fram and he told me that if I was gonna use that I might as well not  bother. He was not a fan of fram at all. Out of respect for the old man I still won't buy fram.

Thats why I don't use Fram. An old girlfriend's father hated them, he was an old school Yankee, said they were junk. I took his word for it way back then.

They're all junk. Just change your oil frequently and keep the foreign matter out.

Another Wix/NAPA Gold user here. After seeing that minimopar link several years ago, I never bought Fram again. Too bad they are the first-name in oil filters it seems.
