If you don't want to weld the holes shut and have some time, you could get into the door and epoxy some small sheet metal patches over the holes from behind, then use a good filler over the hole from the outside. It's a little bit better than just skimming over with filler on the outside only until it's filled.

well i got my new mirrors from   truck today.  comes with some screws, washers, plastic weird looking tan screw things, a black plate, and the mirror itself.  also comes with some worthless instructions..... can anyone help me with a step by step on how to put these on the door?  do you have to take off the door panel on the inside at all?  im a newbie so dumb it down for me....dont want to just start drilling holes and not do it right. thanks.

I can't tell from the picture, but if the bag has nut sets, technically you can just drill the holes and drop them in.  Of course the factory ones have a brace that secures the inner/outer skin so you have to remove the door panel to put it in.

the part im having problem with is that black backing plate.  the 3 holes seem to be a lot larger than the 3 bolts they gave me...the little tan washers are also too small for that backing plate.  i understand how to get the bracket on and then you slide the cover over that and put the 1 little screw in.  i just don't get the backing plate part.  hmmm.... who would have known something little like this could stump someone.  but im new to working on vehicles
thanks

You talking about the black plastic?  It goes against the paint.
Holes are drilled, then plastic, then mirror bracket, then the washers then the bolts. then the cover slips over

hey guys i got my new mirrors on now.  made a huge difference in the cleaner look in the truck.  i hated those mirrors the most out of anything on my truck.  here's some new pics.  the holes were welded shut then bondo then primered.  theres no way to paint them though cuz it would never match.  so for now its just going to have gray on there

oh yea it snowed here a couple of days ago (most is melted now) snowed like 7 inches.  put ol green in 4x4 and man that truck mobs!  i was trying to get her to slide around corners on some not so busy side streets.  nothing.   i've never had something drive so nice on such crappy roads.  well worth the money paid for her just for that reason alone
