One more question about my harmonic balancer ~
« on: November 09, 2009, 12:52:22 pm »
So, the balancer that I bought from autozone seems like it is too ling to send all the way in to my timing cover. Can anyone privide specs about what the gap is suppose to look like on my 87 5.7 350?
If I send it all the way in, the balancer is sitting about a half an inch from the cover and about an eighth of an inch from the timing indicator tab on the cover.
I checked with autozone and the only other one they have is the same overall width as the one I got.
The only other thing I can think to do is go to a used parts place and get one that I know came off my year motor...
Or go to the salvage yard and look at one to see what it is suppose to look like.

But if anyone has a photo of their's for me I can compare it to mine and see if I have it on far enough...

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!! ;D

I cant upload pics right now but i guess what Im saying is, how do I know if the balancer is on properly? It is on as far as it can go but, it looks like it should be on the shaft further than what it is.

Did you line up the key way? By ling you mean long right? how far did it go on? You just haven't installed it all the way yet. Lousy pic btw...but from what I can make out it's got a ways to go.

Vile, you seem cranky... sorry don't mean to be annoying but, whats an interferance fit...

Also, that is the same tool I am using. It also comes with the removal set but yeah, that's it.

Interference fit - the hole is slightly smaller than the shaft.
