16 inch rims for C10?
« on: November 11, 2009, 06:50:31 am »
Anybody seen a 1/2 ton Chevy 2WD rolling around with some 275/60R16 before? Wondering if it would look good since it would fill in the fenderwell a lot better than a 275/60R15 would. That would make a 29" tall tire so it would be the same height as the stock 235/75R15.
Just wider. Just so you know, I'm not really into the big 18+ inch rims...just not me. 8)

How do you figure it will fill the fenderwell a lot better?

My fenderwells runneth over...
and it's done with 15" wheels...and the tire dia is 29.5 aft and 29 forward...

basically - no need to outlay the cash on the rims unless you just have to cuz it's burning a hole in your pocket...
OR... you could just give it to me and I'll go buy the Keith Whitley Box set and some extra speakers for the garage...!!!

I just figured that a 275/60R16 would fit and look a little better because it has an overall larger diameter than the same size on a 15" rim.
I had thought about getting some SLT Muscle Mags in 16X8. It's a little different too. Thanks.

the wheel size is just the size of the hole in the middle of the tire.

As stated the tire size dictates the height, the wheel size is just the hole in the center.  This is pics of my truck with factory size wheels and tires (top pic) and the bottom are 17" Impala SS wheels with tires that are the same overal diameter, just wider

I think Capt posted a tire size calculation site somewhere but if you're looking for the same height and more width I would save your money on the 16" rims and more money for the tires and go to a 255 70 15. If your truck is like mine, it came with 235 75 15. The 255's fill the well up nicely and are simliar in height. I have 275 60 15 on my 67 and if it wasn't lowered 5"s it wouldn't look good in my opinion.

235 75 15 = 9.25"W x 28.88 overall H
255 70 15 = 10.04W x 29.06 overall H

Ok...I don't want to piss anyone off, but I feel that a pickup truck that rolls on say, 235/60R15's just looks ridiculous. It's way too small for the huge wheelwells of the full size Chevy or Ford or whatever. Just my opinion. I see it all the time. Those sizes are for cars...not trucks. Now an S10 or Ranger might look outstanding with such small diameters. Sometimes even 235/75's look small!

I don't think anyone was suggesting 235 60 15. I agree this doesn't look good. And the stock size isn't wide enough. I've seen a few stock height C10's with 255 70 15 and it looks just right. Just another opinion...

When I had my truck at stock height (2wd) I ran 275/60R15 and 325/50R15 in the rear. It looked good. 327, do you get what we are saying about 15" vs 16"? It won't make the tire grow taller ya know?
