SBC Factory ratings?
« on: November 15, 2009, 11:53:16 am »
I'm wondering if anyone knows how I can find out what the factory horsepower/torque ratings would be for my donor engine. It's a '95 350 TBI with swirlport heads out of a 3/4 ton GMC van.

thanks,
Gear

Uh...nevermind...I found some info on Wiki.

Answer; Per Chilton's 1995 5.7 truck engine produces 200 HP and 310 ft lbs torque.

I got 210/300 for Vin code K.  Either way it's unimpressive.

Friend of mine back in the late 90's had a 95 1/2-ton ex-cab 2wd with the 350. He put a B&M 144 blower on it, and it was still underwhelming  lol

Lol...I know, I know....but I'm looking at it this way; I can get this truck on the road sooner by using a good running engine that cost me virtually peanuts and while I have fun driving it (Or not pushing it in and out of my garage) I can build a nice 383 or something one winter. Its this or its moth-balled for another half decade.

And I'm sure it will be a little better than the 2005 F150 I'm currently driving....lol

don't feel bad , there were 454s that barely  made 200 hp in thelate 70s but they had a lot of torque though

It seems GM's engineers went on strike in the early 70's and didn't come back to work until the late 80's, but by then foreigners had changed the game some.

Must have been truly frustrating and boring being any kind of domestic automotive engineer in the 70's and early 80's. Car designs were lame and boring. Drivetrains were lame and boring. Choking back more and more power of the V8. Taller and taller rear gears. More and more diesel-like power curves. zzzzZZZZZzzzzzzZZZZZ
