oil pressure gauge issues
« on: November 16, 2009, 07:58:16 am »
I just bought an 89 2500 Suburban with 454 2wd THM400. I am working out some minor issues. One of them is with the oil gauge. It reads really high. It shows 40+ at idle and at cruise it pegs the gauge. I do not believe that I am getting 90+ psi out of the engine, it would likely blow the oil filter off, so I am sure it is gauge or sender related. Is this a common problem and if so what is the cause?
BTW, the engine has 120K and runs flawlessly.
I did a search and found nothing related to this type of issue.
Thanks

Scott

Hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to get your true pressure readings first.
