Bringing home Shortbox bed

I just scored a short bed without gate for my 86
Has anyone had any experience with putting the 'new' shortbox
(without gate) into the current shortbox on their truck and drving
it across town? I don't see any problems if I lay it diagonaly in my
truck and straping it or does anyone have any other suggestions?

Of course that was my first choice but don't have the time
need to get it first thing in the morning or GONE plus I don't have a hitch
Has anyone had any sucess or failue...lol, doing it in the bed
Thought of mayby laying it upside down rail to rail and clamping it

Id flip it and put it on top of your old bed, but be sure to use plenty of clamps and tie downs

I've sold a few shortbeds to people who just stood them up on the front panel (so the tailgate end is in the air). Like Choptop said, use plenty of straps.

I was going to say flip it upside down too. If you happen to lose it, can you make sure its in my driveway?

How much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking? Did you get it from the guy in Petrolia or Essex Cty?

Flip it over. Used wood in your stake pockets to keep it lined up, plus you will only need a couple clamps if it has a wood stake in each corner.

Thanks for the ideas ,going to get it now.
The wood is a great idea! going to go with that.
Box is a dual gas door, no rust , southern
Cost me 400

Do as per Blazin's instructions.  one of our mechanics at work brought a box for a 2000 chev long bed home about 200 miles on the highway doing that with the wood, some clamps, and a strap.

I moved a 8' bed like that before, just the wood in the stake pockets, nothing else. Moved it 40 plus miles. Was planning on some c clamps but the dub I was getting the bed for forgot to bring them!

That idea worked perfect.!!.....no problem
Yea I good a smokin deal on that , been looking forever
saw it sitting in the back yard of a garage and offered 400
and he took it....sweet. Dual gas doors,which I don't need
but is extra rare.
Now gotta get it off...lol
