Removing overload leaf spring?
« on: November 23, 2009, 08:57:20 pm »
Hey All,

Working on installing a DJM flip kit on my 1/2 ton 85 LWB.  I currently have the leaf springs off and was wondering if i could soften the ride a bit by removing the overload spring.  Will this cause any un-stability of the leaf pack?  I don't plan on hauling/towing with this truck.

Also does anyone have any tips to remove a seized bolt from my rear hanger?  I have eaten up about 3 sawzall blades and haven't got through it yet.  Grade 8 bolts suck.  I had soaked them with pb blast for about a week before and tried heat also.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, remove the spring you don't need it. I agree, get some heat on it and some new bushings.

i removed mine and a couple more to soften up the ride and it lowered it a little too. no problems with it ever except it does't ride like an old bouncy truck anymore.

Thanks guys. ;)
I got all of the bolts off.  I was able to wedge the grinder in there.  I just need to order some more bolts now.  Tractor supply doesn't have the right size.  Guess I'm ordering them from  ...
