NP203 Stuck in Neutral
« on: December 20, 2009, 05:23:57 pm »
Truck is a 78Chevy K-10 w/350 Motor and tranny along with a NP203 T-case.

Got a lot of snow today and went out to make sure the 4weel drive was working well.  On my NP203-with the part time conversion- i shifted from 4H though all of the gears to 4L.  However on the way back up it got stuck in what I believe is neutral.  If I pull back on the shifter it grinds gears somewear between the transmission and the differential, and the shifter wont move forward.

We towed the truck to try and see if it would slip in gear while it was moving.  No luck.

I am fairly certain that it is in neutral because Drive and Reverse will not engage.  Also when in Park it still rolls like it was in neutral.

Wondering if anybody else or had a similar problem and knows what might be wrong or suggestions to try?

Went back out today to try and adjust the shift linkage.  I manually put the linkage rods in the neutral position and discovered that they were still aligned.  Got in the truck and started it up, and it shifted right in, I think it must have been binding and my moving the rods themselves unstuck them.

Thanks for all the help.
