Door Tools....
« on: December 21, 2009, 12:32:14 pm »
I am about to begin restoring my '87 Chevy ShortStep .....

What special tools should I get before removing the doors?

My Ol Dad used to say:  "There aint no hard jobs...just jobs you dont have the right
tools for."  He's been awful right.

i don't think you need any special tools to remove the doors.   just a 9/16 or 5/8 socket, ratchet, and maybe a drill to drill out the rivets on the boot that the electrical runs through (if you have power windows/locks)   it is easier to remove the doors if you take the fender off, but not necessary.

Nothing special needed unless you want to take the springs off the hinges.

If you don't have an assistant it's easier/lighter too to gut the door while it's on the truck. A block of wood and a floor jack is helpful too.
