A friend of mine had a Z06 Corvette with the auto and hated it. The traction control wouldn't let the tores break loose and it couldn't be turned off either. Not that smoking the tires is something you want when racing, but a REAL Corvette should smoke'em without hesitation.

burning clutch disc smoke smells sooooo much different from burning rubber....it's putrid.  They are indeed idiots.  That guy really thought he was doing something.

I had my old stang on a hill once back in my teenage days and I couldn't let off the gas and at this one particular time i couldn't let my foot off the clutch to apply the brake.  I was in a catch...so i had to keep tension on the clutch disc to prevent from going forward and moving backwards.  The disc was a burnin'. 

But, that was just fine. I loved burning rubber w/ that old pony and went through clutches and rubber regularly.  I could replace a clutch in that old '68 stang in about 45 minutes.....4 bolts for the driveshaft, 4 bolts holding the trans to the bell housing, six bolts holding the bell housing to the engine, two bolts on the trans cross bar, three bolts on the linkage, 6 bolts on the pressure plate, clutch spring removed.  Hardest part was lining up the disc with the pilot hole but i made guide out of a broom stick handle to line up the disc, throw out bearing, fork and pressure plate. 

I used to joke I could change a clutch on that blindfolded--i think i could still.

The ZO6 should have a competition mode that allows traction control to be turned off.  Every Vette I have been in  (we turbo'd 2 of them) allows you to turn it off including mine.

I think the guys watching didn't have a clue what was going on.  I would have stopped him immediately.  It ain't cheap replacing a clutch assembly in a Vette.

I've never seen one you can't override tcs in either. I'll tell ya this though you need it

yeah, you got that right.  Mine just has 345HP and the back finds the front REAL easy.
The Twin Turbo'd Z06 was a handful.

He said it didnt, but I never looked personally. I believe you guys for sure because even the wifes WS6 had the switch to turn off the TCS. He was a Chiropractor, Oldyeller knows who, , so that may explain it some. Im glad they do have what their name is famous for. I think the fromt badge had 401 or 403 hp on it, cant remember for sure, but i figured with that much power, it should burn the tires off. Stupid traction control
oh wait maybe not , it does keep me out of the ditch in the wifes car when I get to misbehaving

my wife had a '00 cavalier  z24 that didn't have an over-ride for traction control. it was horrible for getting stuck in the snow because of the lack of that button.

Yeah it is. The Pontiac versions had ETS override which makes no sense to me.

I think they knew.  I know a few idiots with more money than brains, and I think I'd just let them "burn-out" to their heart's content.
