good carb for 350

im not sure what size carb is on my 76 3/4 ton 4x4 but this carb is terrible. it needs to be cleaned or replaced but i think i am just going to replace it. i just wanted to know whats a good carb to run on a stock 350. i have been looking at the holley 570 truck avenger. my buddy has a 670 on his cammed 400 in his bronco and he swears by it. but on the other hand my other buddy has the same truck as me and he put an edelbrock 650 on it and loves it. so i got the holley guy telling me to go with holley and the edelbrock guy telling me to go edelbrock. any ideas?

Get the Stage 1 for a stock truck

I pull my boat between 6000 and 8000 miles a year
I picked up 2 MPG with the stage 2
It's paid for itself in the fuel savings
Plus it runs better than the previous carbs
And the Electric Choke works great

Q-Jet rebuilt then adjusted while on your your truck by someone who knows them well.

You can't go wrong with an Edelbrock 600. You will get decent results right out of the box. Just bolt it on and go.
If you can rebuild the Q-jet yourself that would be the cheap way to go, but if your paying a shop to do it it will probably be cheaper just to buy the Edelbrock.

One more vote for the old Q. They can be modified for many different applications by people who know them. I switched from an edelbrock back to a Quadrajet and its better.

when I put my 383 stroker in my  79, i bought a new qjet (rated around 795+-?cfm).  I forgot the part number, 1407 or 1405 or something like that.  I never had to as much as turn a screw--she's great.  Of course, I paid $400 back in 04 but it was worth it to me.

Another vote here for the Qjet. The front barrels are smaller for fuel economy. The back barrells are huge for when you want to romp on it. Mine is 30 years old and all I've done with it so far in the year I've owned it was to adjust to air flaps on the secondaries so they would not open up too fast when you stand on it so it doesn't bog the engine.

I have a 600 Holley, electric choke, vacuum secondaries, on my 355 in my 84 C-10, and love it. I also agree with the rebuilt Q-JET, but personally find Holley's easier to rebuild.

Ive run Edelbrock carbs with great success, and a properly rebuilt Qjet with the same results. The Edelbrock looks better, but the Qjet fits better with the standard aircleaner unless you buy more parts for the Edelbrock. If you can, rebuild or find someone to rebuild the Qjet. Cheaper and just as effective.
