I dont have carpet in mine, so I cant help you but the carpet should meet up with the firewall pad.

Did you get the carpet locally?

You shouldn't be missing a piece as the carpet is all molded in one piece.  It should be oversized and trim to fit.  another words if it isn't bigger that the carpet you are pulling out, someone must have returned it either due to a coreshift when molding it, or they cut to much off of it.

The carpet should go up past the firewall insulation by at least 3-4" and should go past the door sill by at least that much.

I sell ACC carpet here: http://store.73-87chevytrucks.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=7&Category_Code=FLRNG  It is $146 + about $21 to ship it anywhere.

Hey Capt, I saw two types of carpet for our trucks. Loop and cut pile. My truck is a 79 and it calls for cut pile. I would rather have loop carpet, is there a way around that?

73-74 used the same style carpet as the 67-72's loop pile.  75+ was cut pile.  You can order anything you want, but if you get a 79 in loop pile there is a charge and generally it is non returnable.  If that is what you really want though anything can be ordered.  Heck you can get it in Super Bright Blue if you want.

I will do ok without the super bright blue...Im actually going to convert the interior to gray. OK so if I order carpet for a 74, it wont fit in a 79? I have to custom order 79 with loop?

When you are ready to order, place it and there is a notes section, put what you want in there and If I have questions I will call you.  If you put what you want there will be a little more cost that I will have to add to it, but you will get what you want.

my 75 has loop carpet in it, does that mean it was a late 74 or early 75?

Hey Capt I had a thought about my acc stuff.  I really love all the carpet and floormats.  Except for one thing.  They need an option to notch out the top left corner of the drivers floormat for the dimmer switch.  I'd have notched it myself except the mats have that embroidered edging, and I cant recreate that.   I have to pull the mat back daily to get it off the switch.  I think I may buy some of those mat anchor things to hold it in place.  Great quality stuff though.  I was impressed by the mats just because they were way heavier than anything at the parts stores, and I like the spikes on the underside too.

okiesinmt, yours would have to be a late 74 then.

Kenny,
Are you talking about the floor mats or the carpet.  Take a picture! I may can pass it on to them.
