I got a question
« on: February 02, 2010, 01:54:30 pm »
The heater - A/C box that is in the cab under the dash where is bolts to the blower motor box outside the cab. For the part on the inside does there have to be padding between it and the inner firewall? I need to get it together so i can bolt on my fenders but I do not have sound deadener/padding that originally went between the two. I figure that there will be a difference in the bolt length but i am joint to try and use different bolts anyway.

Are you talking about BETWEEN the pieces and in inside the box where it bolts to the firewall?  If so, no.

I just took my heater/ac box apart to clean up on my 79 and I put new foam seal in places where the old stuff was rotting away, but that was on parts of the interior side. As for the mounting surface between the box itself and the firewall, there was nothing there. The firewall pad went around the box. I suppose you could add some if you wanted to, but I dont think its necessary. It seals up pretty well and when the bolts and nuts are tightened, its on there good.

You don't want insulation trapped inside the box.

My opinion, I wouldn't put that on there.  I would use some new insulation stuff like this:
