need help

my buddy broke the head off a bolt on my right side valve cover. now it is leaking oil when drive aroud, btu when its idling it doesnt does any one have any suggestion on how to fix this problem? thanks in advance

Well you got to get the broken bolt out thats for sure. Is there anyway to get something on the bolt to spin it out? Like (forgive me for suggesting this) vise grips or something? You may have to get some easy outs and drill it out. Ive never removed a broken bolt from a head or anything so if this method is to primitive let me know lol. Just BE SURE TO NOT GET ANY METAL SHAVINGS IN THE HEAD. That could prove detrimental.

If t's just a little 1/4" - 20 bolt it should come out relatively easy. Like Maintenanceman suggests should work for ya.

no its in there pretty good whast easy outs is it like a srew removal kit on tv?

You can get these at any tool or auto parts store. Sometimes they come in kits, and sometimes just one size. They are great. When you are drilling the pilot hole, be very careful and do it slowly. You want to make sure your are centered and alligned. You dont want to be angled and hit the threads. They usually come with a drill bit. Drill the hole in the stuck bolt and put the easy out in and unscrew your bolt. It will dig into the stuck bolt as your unscrewing it. http://www.brokentap.com/easy-outs.html

On a 1/4-20 bolt I would use a LH drill bit.

yea the Left Handed drill bits work good too. Just be sure to not get into the threads. If you use an easy out then drill your pilot hole in the bolt and then just lightly tap the easy out into the hole (its going to be realtively small any way) then put a wrench or something on it and turn it counter clock wise. Can you take any pics for us to see?

if you can get to the bolt at all, i suggest taking a dremel with small cutoff wheel and cut a slot it then use a flathead screwdriver..

Be very careful when drilling out that bolt. All those little shavings will get everywhere. Try finding a good magnet and dont let the bit spin too fast and fling shavings.

ok thanks for the advice i am going to try and get my friend to do it. he has a lot more experience than i do with this kinda stuff

sorry its been a while my computer blew up and i just got it fixed, my friend never came by the house to look at it so i went to my local autozone and i got some valve cover clamps. It stopped my oil leak. The other day i started working on it again and i ffixed my direct 12volts to the distributor but i have ran in to another problem. when i turn the key the gas gauge goes up past full but when i switch the key off it goes back and i run out of gas at the line before the half way mark, and the oil pressure seems to be always stuck at 90 even tho i disconnected it and the battery.
