getting parts at dealer?
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:30:39 am »
So I went to my local chevy dealer to see if they could still get a door hinge spring for my 84.  They said they don't list parts for a full size truck that old anymore only a s-10.  Is this true or is the parts guy being lazy.  I can't believe gm don't list parts for my truck anymore.

I went to the gm dealer in freeport and was asking about my tranny speedo gear in an 86 trans, let alone a 77 truck. The dude was clueless...

83 citation - 2.5L Four on the Floor!
88 sierra - reman 350 700r4 "Eleanor"
All normal practicality and rational money handling goes out of the window when it comes to my truck.

I may go back on Monday and see if the regular parts guy is there.  I think this guy was just the weekend help.  Has any one every come across microfiche for these trucks.  That would be helpful so you could just give them a part number rather than them trying or wanting to look it up.

try an older dealership.  theyre more likely to have old parts and if you can get help from one of the older guys that'd be the best.  they are networked to every other dealer and even if they don't have a part, if it's in inventory somewhere they can find it and ship it to your local dealer for free.  everything i order for my truck seems to come from NC or SC dealerships for some odd reason... :D
